Ed Tech Program

As someone who completed an edtech education program for PSS Staff, I found the experience incredibly valuable overall. Here are my thoughts: Overall Thoughts: The edtech program provided a comprehensive and practical approach to integrating technology into the classroom. It emphasized not only the use of tools but also pedagogical strategies to enhance teaching and learning outcomes. I appreciated the hands-on approach and the focus on real-world application. Challenging Topics: Some of the most challenging topics in the program revolved around effectively integrating technology across diverse subjects and grade levels. This required understanding the unique needs and challenges of each subject area and age group, as well as finding suitable tools and resources to meet those needs. Most Important Thing Learned: The most important takeaway from the program was the importance of student-centered learning and the role of technology in facilitating personalized and differentiated ins...

Instructional Design with Technology

My overall thoughts on this course comes from the view of a school district administrator. I believe that instructional design with technology is crucial for school administrators because it enhances teaching and learning experiences. It enables administrators to integrate innovative tools and resources into the curriculum, catering to diverse learning styles and needs. Moreover, technology-driven instructional design fosters engagement, collaboration, and critical thinking among students, preparing them for the digital age. Lastly, effective use of technology in instructional design can lead to improved academic outcomes and better prepares students for success in higher education and the workforce. As someone who regularly is asked to do presentations, I found the gamification module to be one of the most important parts of the class. We are always tasked to ensure we are hitting standards and benchmarks and we sometimes forget that learning should also be fun. I also appreciate...

Debunking learning styles myth

Here are my thoughts regarding this article on learning styles. I've also included a video of a student submitting an assignment with their learning styles taken into consideration. I think it just reinforced my perception of learning styles. Like I said earlier, matching the presenting style to the learned topic is a great teacher strategy. Doing an assessment of the diverse learning styles of your students should be a given if one wants to be a better teacher. Curating the lessons to help students who may benefit from a new strategy or presenting style should be what we do regularly, but I understand how time consuming that may be or even challenging if we find ourselves not particularly strong in that area. In essence, when you practice differentiation in your classrooms, it shouldn't just be about levels of mastery but include learning modalities.  Besides learning styles, as mentioned in Topic 1, a strong foundation of usability and accessibility needs to be built into th...

Reflections

Greetings, Beautiful People! I'm finishing up the first course of my EdTech cohort journey. Who lied and said this would be easy? 😒 Even as a refresher, I find that I've forgotten some useful tips and picked up many more items along the way. This is one of the best programs in PSS and I'm glad it has continued to remain available to the staff. Kudos to Ms. Lorraine for being an amazing ITDE director.  I'm happy to be sharing this class with my work wife, Valerie. I think I learned a lot about how I can utilize this edtech tools in all aspects of my work. Since the district primarily uses Google apps, I plan to continue to use all parts of it with reports, data collection, and documentation of all administrative aspects of work life. I think I just want to learn more about using sheets and being more confident in using it in my praxis.
